Exceptional from start to finish. I hosted a birthday dinner for 17 people in the Subterrane Room at Cecconi's Flinders Lane. In the lead up to the event, every detail was checked and double checked, with great communication from the events team. On the evening, everything was perfect! A fantastic food & drinks menu, sophisticated ambiance, and exceptional service. A particular thanks to Olivia for going above and beyond to make our evening so special. Cecconi's is truly a Melbourne institution, beautiful restaurant with great private dining options/spaces.
Came here for dinner and ordered three starters, potato gnocchi, wagyu brisket and a dessert. The meal came with complimentary bread which was tasty with the olive oil. Starters were good, really liked the hazelnut cream that was paired with the grilled quail skewer; the vitello tonnato was tasty and the bun has a nice soft texture, just needed a little bit more of the creamy mayo. For the potato gnocchi, had the main size which was quite substantial; it was soft and pillowy with a deep potato flavour which works well with the creamy sweet and nutty celeriac fondue. The gnocchi was topped with several pieces of braised short rib which was caramelised, tender and flavour packed; very tasty. The main meat dish I had was a wagyu brisket coated with a hazelnut crust. The meat was very tender and soft with a fat cap which added a richness to the dish, and the crust was crispy but couldn't really taste the nutty flavour of the hazelnut. The dish was paired with a savoury meat jus, herby kale puree and some vinegary greens which helps balance the richness of the brisket. For dessert, had the chocolate pudding which was warm, creamy and decadent; sweetness was just right with a side of fior di latte gelato. Overall it was a tasty and satisfying meal; service was also good with the pacing of the dishes and refill of water.
We enjoyed every food we ordered, our critique is only one though, the grilled calamari was overcooked, it was quite bitter. but overall, nice service, great ambiance, and I do love my beef brisket gnocchi.
An institution in Melbourne but I’d never been before the weekend! Cosy understated fit out that felt nice and intimate. Very mixed crowd for a Saturday night with families, friends, groups of men and couples. We had an entree of ravioli, I then had a main special of sage butter & truffle fettuccine, absolutely mouth watering. The dessert pudding was also to die for.
Truly Exceptional Dining – Every Detail Just Right We called ahead to say we were running late, and they responded with genuine care—“Don’t rush, we’ll be here.” From the moment we walked in, we felt at ease. The staff were warm, professional, and truly intuitive—anticipating our needs without ever hovering. Cocktails were spot on, the seafood was incredibly fresh, and the pasta was full of flavour. The tiramisu? A perfect finish. Every detail felt considered. Cecconi’s isn’t just a dinner—it’s an experience. We left feeling relaxed, full, and looked after. Can’t wait to return.
