New (better) food, same terrible service. After the disappointing experience with Song Bird, expectations were high on the new opening. Unfortunately the service has not changed, if at all it got worse. Reception is unwelcoming - sorry to bother you checking in for my booking. Please continue your private conversation, I am.sure I can figure out myself where my table is. Dietery requests - despite repeated twice- were completely ignored. Let's see if they really can't have cheese and put it on top of everything! And instead of accepting the error, they blamed it on the "new staff" - that's a culture you want to work in! The food definitely improved to Song Bird..no experiment, just simple Italian cooking. The potato rostis are just very salty. Everything else was nice. The interior hasn't changed much either, just instead of Asian walls there are Italian stars and VIPs on the walls. Best table is still at the window to distract yourself from the incompetence inside watching the bus
Went for a beautiful dinner with my partner before leaving Sydney, and it truly couldnโt have been a better way to say goodbye to this city. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly kind and made the whole experience feel warm and special. We shared a few starters, then enjoyed some delicate tortelli and tagliolini โ sweet, smooth, and bursting with flavour. But the highlight of the night was the tuna steak: cooked to perfection, with pine nuts and slow-cooked onions that created the most wonderful combination. We finished with a dreamy tiramisu โ honestly a 10/10! โจ Such a memorable evening in a place you simply canโt miss. Big thanks to the whole team, the chefs, and our amazing waiter Marco for an unforgettable evening! ๐
Such a perfect Italian lunch! Gran Torino is a beautiful restaurant with very tasty food. Lots of classic meals done well; the pumpkin pasta was amazing! My partner enjoyed the blue swimmer crab pasta and the veal too. On the pricey side but great for a special occasion. Would love to visit again maybe at dinner time.
We finally made it to Gran Torino - a little later than planned, but absolutely worth the wait! And celebrating our anniversary made the whole experience feel even more special. We began with a glass of Pol Roger and caviar, followed by a bottle of 2023 Rodda Chardonnay, one of my favourites! The entrรฉes were exceptional: the scallops crudo with ciambotta was delicate yet full of depth; the tuna tartare with eggplant and Calabrian chilli was beautifully balanced; and the trevally crudo with green olive tapenade had that bright savoury lift that ties everything together. The seafood continued to shine with the Skull Island tiger prawns and peperonata, alongside the king prawns with garlic and chilli, two completely different but equally delicious expressions. The squid collar spiedino with peas and its ink was tender, elegant, and so thoughtfully prepared, a standout. Dish after dish, the chefs delivered precision, harmony, and a celebration of truly premium ingredients. Nothing overdon
From food to service, everything was just perfect. Iโm Italian, and tonight some dishes, like the agnolotti ,truly brought me back home. The food is classic, authentic, and full of genuine flavor. Service was exceptional we were lucky to be looked after by Karen, Giulia, and both sommeliers. They were all incredible, especially Karen (forgive me if Iโm spelling it wrong!) she elevated the whole experience with her kindness and professionalism. Never too pushy, always attentive, and genuinely passionate about her work. Itโs rare to find that level of care these days. Desserts were outstanding if you go, make sure to try more than one! The apple tart was a highlight. If I had to make one small note, the crab pasta could be slightly thicker for my personal Italian taste I love a bit more bite but the flavor was still classic and beautifully balanced. Thank you, Chef Neil Perry, for bringing another wonderful restaurant to life!
