We attended Lu Mare Restaurant over the weekend for my sisterโs baby sprinkle lunch. The food was amazing, and the customer service went above and beyond. We felt genuinely well looked after throughout our visit. A special shout-out to Noel, who made our experience so delightful. She is truly a valuable asset to your business. A big thank you to the team at Lu Mare.
Came here for hubbys 40th birthday. Service was exceptional. The restaurant has a really nice view of the harbour. The food was delicious - can highly recommend the tiramisu. It was next level and tasted like the tiramisu we had in Italy !! I forgot my sunglasses at dinner and the lovely restaurant manager Freya was amazing in helping me get them back. Such lovely friendly staff.
Nestled within the Boat Harbour Motel Lu Mare Restaurant feels like a hidden gem despite its prime location overlooking the harbour. Although itโs part of the motel complex, the restaurant maintains its own distinct identity, accessed via a somewhat tight spiral staircase that adds a touch of adventure to your arrival. Once upstairs, youโre rewarded with a bright, inviting space featuring light colours and Mediterranean-inspired decor that perfectly complements the stunning views of Belmore Basin and the boats bobbing in the water. Even when seated toward the back of the dining room, the harbour vista remains prominently in sight, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We were warmly greeted by friendly staff who seated us promptly and provided attentive service throughout the evening โ genuinely lovely and efficient, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. To start, we opted for a carafe of Chardonnay from the extensive drinks menu. It was a crisp, well-balanced choice with notes of citrus and subtle oak, pairing beautifully with the Italian flavours to come. Entrees included Pane (Homemade Bread with Extra Virgin Olive Oil). Freshly baked and served warm, this simple starter was fragrant and crusty, ideal for dipping in the high-quality olive oil. A classic way to begin an Italian meal. Calamari (Semolina Fried Baby Calamari with Lemon and Lemon Mayo). Light and crispy batter encased tender, succulent flesh โ not greasy at all, with the fresh lemon cutting through beautifully. Cacio e Ova (Fried Croquette with Pecorino Romano Cheese & Egg, served with Tomato Sauce). Bursting with rich, savoury flavour from the sharp Pecorino and creamy egg filling, dipped in a vibrant tomato sauce. It was deeply satisfying, though slightly on the dry side in the centre. Mains included Pesce (Filleted Snapper with Cherry Tomatoes, Olives, Capers, Potato, White Wine, and Lemon). This dish was a highlight โ the snapperโs flesh was beautifully delicate and flaky, cooked to perfection. The sweet cherry tomatoes provided a juicy burst, balanced expertly by the briny olives and tangy capers, all brought together in a light white wine and lemon sauce. A harmonious celebration of coastal Italian cuisine. Grigliata Di Maiale (Grilled Pork Cutlet with Pork & Fennel Sausage and Brined Pork Belly). A hearty plate for meat lovers! Generous portions of perfectly grilled pork, with the fennel sausage adding aromatic spice and the belly offering rich, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Substantial and flavourful โ definitely not for the faint-hearted. We ordered a side of Piselli e Fave (Pan-Fried Sweet Peas and Broad Beans with Pancetta, Shallot, Garlic, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil). A perfect accompaniment, bursting with fresh green flavours and enhanced by the prominent garlic notes. The pancetta added a subtle smokiness, making it vibrant and moreish โ we easily shared and finished the lot. Overall, Lu Mare delivers authentic Italian dishes with heart, showcasing fresh ingredients and balanced flavours in a setting thatโs hard to beat. The combination of harbour views, warm service, and thoughtful menu makes it a standout spot in Wollongong.
Nice view towards the beach from the restaurant and comfortable seating. Access is via a narrow spiral staircase. The food was tasty and arrived not too long after order, though portions could be a bit more generous. Friendly staff and table service. Free street parking available nearby.
We actually found this restaurant thanks to Google. On a road trip and heading home we decided to stop for lunch. A quick Google search and I found 5 star reviews for Lu Mare. Without a booking on Fathers Day, they were able to accommodate us at the bar area. The food and drinks were amazing and the service very friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and it would be the first one I'd head to if I was back in Wollongong.
